The elections of Bittipara Kuthi Bazar Traders Association 2025-26 in Kushtia have been postponed due to legal complications.
After the decision to postpone the elections, the administration has imposed Section 144 in the market area to avoid tension and maintain the law and order situation.
Traders expressed their anger after the administration imposed Section 144 after the voting process was conducted amidst a joyful atmosphere. Law enforcement forces have been on a strict stand in the market area since dawn. All types of campaigning, including public gatherings, processions, and carrying weapons, have been banned from 8 am to 8 pm.
Dr. Oliur Rahman, a member of the advisory council of the Bazar Traders Association, said that the postponement of the elections is a sad incident. However, I respect the decision of the administration to maintain the law and order situation.
Haji Akmal Hossain, Chief Election Commissioner of Bittipara Kuthi Bazar Traders' Association, said that the new date of the election will be announced after resolving the legal complications. We are appealing to everyone for cooperation.
Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman said that since the Election Commissioner himself said to postpone the elections, we have imposed Section 144 to maintain the law and order situation.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Partha Protim Seal said that there has been division among the candidates and some legal complications regarding the elections of the Bazar Traders' Association. As a result, there is a risk of disruption of peace and order. Therefore, Section 144 has been imposed along with the postponement of the elections.
