Seven coaches of the Mohanganj Express train derailed on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway route yesterday. Gazipur District Commissioner Abul Fate Mohammad Safiqul Islam said that one person was killed and seven others were injured. He also said that the railway line had been cut at the spot.
The incident took place on the Dhaka-bound train near Chilai Bridge in the outer signal area of Bhawal railway station in Gazipur early yesterday morning. The deceased's name is Aslam Hossain (35). He is a resident of Rawna village in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh. A separate committee formed from the Railway Dhaka Divisional Office and Gazipur District Administration to investigate this incident.
Dhaka Divisional Railway Manager Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman said, initially it seemed that miscreants had committed the incident with the intention of sabotage. A seven-member investigation committee has been formed by inviting Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineer Soumik Shaon Kabir to find the exact cause. The divisional transport engineer, divisional passenger engineer, and divisional doctor are also on this committee.
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Abul Fateh Mohammad Safiqul Islam formed a five-member investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Humayun Kabir. Both committees have been asked to submit the inquiry report within three working days.
