Shamim wants to live

Shamim went to Libya in 2014 with the hope of happiness for his family. But he is standing at the crossroads of life and death. The boy, who wanted to take care of the family by going abroad, lost two kidneys and today he himself is the burden of the family.

Shamim Islam (36) is the son of late Foyzur Rahman of Kharibari village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

As a result of going abroad (Libya) on the smuggled way, he has to read in fear of an uncertain future. Only 400 dinars salary is employed in a water company. Even if he had to run on his own money, there was no way to help the family. He had to spend nine years there reluctantly as his passport was taken away by the owners. In the meantime, he developed various physical complications and had to stay in the ICU of the hospital for two weeks. The doctor said both of his kidneys were damaged.

Finally, with the help of a Bangladeshi brother living in Libya and the money of elder brother Selim sent from the country, Shamim somehow came to the country. Although he was treated by selling all the resources, he is slowly moving towards death.

At present, the family is trying to keep the kidneys active through dialysis two days a week at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. But if he does not transplant kidney quickly, it will not be possible to save him, the doctor said.

Shamim's elder brother Selim Islam said, I sent my younger brother abroad with many dreams. I thought he would take care of the family. But our hopes were not fulfilled. If he does not get a kidney transplant within three months, he will not be saved. His treatment will cost Tk 30 lakh. I appeal to all, including the rich people of the society, to extend a helping hand to save my brother. Cooperate with whatever you can afford.
