Six students apprehended for ragging

 

Another incident of ragging has occurred at the Lalon Shah Hall of the Islamic University (IU), where students of the 2023-24 academic year were subjected to ragging.

Some students were caught red-handed while ragging was going on in room 330 of the hall on Monday midnight. Later, the six accused students were handed over to the police station in police custody.

The accused students are Sabbir Hossain, Shehan Sharif Sheikh, Limon Hossain, Kant Barua, Shakib Khan of the Finance and Banking Department of the 2022-23 academic year and Sanchay Barua of the Law and Land Management Department of the 2022-23 academic year.

It is learned that the accused Shehan called the victims at around 9:30 last night. Later, the accused called them to room 330 of the Lalon Shah Hall. Then the victims went to room 330 along with Saim, Rakibul, Shamim, Rakib, Hamza, Tarek, Rishan, Tanvir and Mamun. At one stage, four people were left (Shamim, Saim, Rakibul, Hamza) and the rest were released when they said they needed to write assignments. Then the accused Sabbir and Sanchay physically and mentally tortured the four people.

Meanwhile, SI Masud, duty officer of EB police station, said, the university administration has brought six people to us. Later, they were kept in police custody at the police station. The next step will be taken after talking to the university administration tomorrow.
