The horizon of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila is wide field. Only yellow and yellow as far as the eye can see. A yellow carpet is spread across the field. Along with the color, the smell of mustard yellow flowers has overwhelmed the entire area. Nature is adorned with colors and fragrances in an aesthetic form of unparalleled beauty. Just like Sadar Upazila, mustard has been cultivated on more land than the target of agriculture department in the fields of 6 Upazila of Jhenaidah. Fields of different Upazila are full of mustard flowers.
The crop fields are covered with mustard yellow flowers. Along with that, the entire area is buzzing with bees. According to the information provided by the Agriculture Department, this year the target of mustard cultivation has been set in 9 thousand 770 hectares of land in 6 Upazila of Jhenaidah. Till now mustard cultivation has been done on 11 thousand 102 hectares of land. Due to the favorable weather conditions and the incentives of the agriculture department, the cultivation has increased this time. Along with this, farmers are expecting good yield due to moderate maintenance.
Manu Mia, a farmer of Miakundu village in Sadar Upazila, said that there was no rain this time. Due to which there was no damage to the mustard. We are expecting a good yield this time as the weather is good. Tushar Hossain, a farmer of the same village, said that last year mustard was spoiled due to rain. But this time there was no problem. If there is no natural calamity in the future, we expect to get 10 to 11 maunds in 46 century bigha.
In this regard, Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Zahidul Karim said that under the incentive program of the government, enough fertilizers and seeds have been given to farmers this year. We regularly advise the farmer brothers to get good yield. Along with mustard field, we are cultivating honey. As the yield of mustard is increasing, so is the production of honey. We expect to get more mustard than the target this year.
