Three inmates surrendered

During the anti-quota movement, three accused in the child murder case among the prisoners who escaped from the jail after the attack on the Narsingdi district jail have surrendered in the Kushtia court. On Thursday  morning, they surrendered through their lawyers in Kumarkhali Senior Judicial Magistrate Court, Kushtia. At that time the court sent them to jail.

The matter was confirmed by Police Inspector of Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Court Zahirul Islam.

The accused were Jalal Sheikh (48), his wife Mafuza Khatun (42) and their child Billal Hossain (20), son of Hanif Sheikh of Radhagram area of Kumarkhali upazila. They are tenants of Zahirul Islam's house in Danga area of Palash upazila of Narsingdi. They are accused in a three-year-old child murder case. Since their arrest, they have been incarcerated in Narsingdi District Jail. These three prisoners also escaped when the miscreants attacked and looted the weapons.

It is learned that the Narsingdi District Jail is located next to the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Velanagar of the city. Students had been protesting continuously for several days demanding reform of quota at Velanagar and Jail Khana intersections. Hundreds of thousands of people were similarly protesting there yesterday. However, there were not many ordinary students that day. Around 4:30 pm suddenly thousands of people started moving towards the prison.

They went there first and threw bricks, bricks and petrol bombs. Almost all of the attackers were armed with sticks, indigenous weapons and firearms. Initially, the prison guards tried to restrain them. For quite some time, chases and clashes took place between them. But at one stage the prison guards retreated. Then the attackers broke the gates on both sides of the prison and entered and set it on fire. Four prison guards were seriously injured in the attack. Later, the prison guards became helpless and entered the prison to defend themselves. According to the jail code, firing was not done.
