A week-long National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair has been inaugurated in Khagrachari.
Khagrachhari Forest Department organized a rally on this occasion in collaboration with the district administration yesterday morning. After parading the main roads of Khagrachhari town, the rally ended at Khagrachhari Municipal Town Hall.
State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Kujendra Lal Epura MP inaugurated the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair by releasing balloons after the rally.
Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Md Shahiduzzaman presided over the function while State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Kujendra Lal Epura MP addressed it as the chief guest.
Divisional Forest Officer of Khagrachhari Forest Division Md Farid Mia delivered the welcome speech.
Khagrachhari Superintendent of Police Mukta Dhar, Khagrachhari Municipality Mayor Nirmalendu Chowdhury, Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Didarul Alam, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council Member Kalyan Mia Barua, Assistant Forest Conservator of Khagrachhari Forest Department Md Shahidul Islam Hawlader, Khagrachhari Sadar Range Officer Md Mosharraf Hossain and all the range officers of the district were present.
State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Kujendra Lal Epura MP said that trees not only enhance the natural beauty but also prevent soil erosion and prevent floods. The role of trees in weather control and trees is immense, without trees the world would have turned into a desert.
He urged the country's huge population, especially the present generation, to come forward for the conservation of the environment system and biodiversity.
After the discussion, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Kujendra Lal Epura MP handed over saplings to the students of different educational institutions of the district as the chief guest.
High government and non-government officials, forest department officials, students, public representatives, journalists, civil society leaders were present on the occasion.
