An extortion gang hacked and injured two brothers after stopping a motorcycle at Pekua in Cox's Bazar. The injured are Mujahidul Islam (38), son of Maulvi Abul Sharif of Shekerkillaghona area of Sadar Union and his brother Saifullah (36). The incident took place yesterday at 12:30 noon in West Goakhali Fateh Ali Matbar Para area of Sadar Union of the upazila. Locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Pekua Upazila Health Complex.
Local people said that land plots are being bought and sold in residential shelters in West Goakhali Matbar para. Mujahid, a prominent businessman of Pekua Bazar, came to hand over possession of his land (plot) to buyer Halima Sadia. While measuring the land with the surveyor, an argument broke out between Mujahid and Md Sohail Gong, son of deceased Nurul Qayyum of Matbar Bari. As a result of this, two brothers were hit when on a motorcycle and seriously injured on their way home.
Injured Mujahidul Islam said we have land next to Fateh Ali Matbar house. A residential shelter will be built there. On this day, he was supposed to hand over possession to Halima Sadia, the buyer of the land. While measuring the land, Sohail blocked the gong and the measurement work stopped. On our way back home by motorcycle, 5-6 people including Sohail's son Noor Sobhan alias Duhan, brother Manik, sister Rina Soltana and sister’s son blocked the road in front of Munsi Tarek's house and beat them up. They beat and snatched the mobile phone and money.
Sudipta Shekhar Bhattacharya, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Pekua Police Station, said that legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
