Two women were arrested along with 13 kg of weed in a drive at Nimsar in Burichong upazila of Cumilla while smuggling weed in the guise of pumpkin greens.
The weed was seized from a Dhaka-bound passenger bus at Nimsar area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Burichong upazila of the district yesterday morning.
DNC Cumilla Deputy Director Chowdhury Imrul Hasan said that on secret information, an anti-drug team led by DNC Cumilla Sub-Inspector Md Murad Hossain conducted a search in front of the drivers' rest house adjacent to Burichong Nimsar Bazar in Cumilla district yesterday morning. A Dhaka-bound bus from Cumilla was searched in a box of goods and 7 kg of weed was recovered from a market bag covered with pumpkin greens. A female accused named Jahanara (50) was arrested for her involvement in smuggling weed. The arrestee is the daughter of late Sharif Ali of Kashipur village in Titas upazila of Cumilla.
A man named Jubeda Begum (47) was arrested with 6 kg of weed after searching the same bus. The deceased was identified as Jubeda Begum, daughter of late Yad Ali Mollah of Gobahara area in Maksudpur upazila of Gopalganj.
