Non-stop birds hunting

Despite the winter season is over, bird hunters are freely hunting birds in Paikgachha of Khulna. Hunters are hunting these birds from various paddy fields, canals, ponds and shrimp enclosures in the area.

In the meantime, the police and administration have taken some measures against the poachers, but due to lack of proper supervision, the hunters are again active in hunting birds. Birds are being hunted by making traps by hanging long nets in the beel, canals of the upazila.

There are many paddy fields, canals, ponds and shrimp enclosures in different areas of the upazila including Purikati, Boyra, Kachubunia, Basakhali, Baisrabad, Tentultala, Lata, Hanimunkia, Bahirbunia, Deluti, Soladana, Chakbogura, Kharia, Akaibasi, Thakurbari, Amirpur, Bainbaria, Kumkhali. Migratory birds used to coming in these canals at the beginning of the winter season.

During the morning, the birds go to these places and collect food. At this time, the people of the enclosure area, including ordinary hunters, already poisoned various fish and grasshopper animals in those places. Hunters have come up with extra ordinary methods to hunt birds. After recording the call of birds from the Internet and played through the sound box in the paddy field, they are hunting birds. Guests and local birds are caught in the trap after hearing the call of birds in the sound box. Besides, birds are hunting to trap current nets by burying bamboo across two/three acres.

Paikgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Al-Amin said the administration is always active to stop bird hunting and strict action is being taken against bird poachers. He urged the aware locals to cooperate with information to stop bird hunting.
