Dhaka Cotton Mills Limited cut tax from every staff as the name of tax pay but never adjusted the amount to the National Revenue Board (NBR).
Staff have demanded income tax invoices from the Dhaka Cotton Authority for the tax filing but declined to hand over the papers. Dhaka Cotton also deducts AIT from suppliers neither pays NBR nor gives the suppliers Mushak or Challan.
Without the tax fraud, there are some allegations against Dhaka Cotton like over-invoice, salary due, torture of women staff, grabbing land, and unrest in the factory.
The deprived staff of Dhaka Cotton said, that when we wanted our due salary the Managing Director Sk Md Samiul Islam threatened us and sent legal notice for fake allegations.
We have received 30 people's documents of salaries which are due worth more than Tk 79 lakh but Dhaka Cotton did not pay the money.
When a woman worker wanted to leave Dhaka Cotton because of the bad approach of the Authority, without paying her dues, the Authority sent a legal notice that demanded nearly Tk one crore for her negligence in the workplace that she never knew before.
In those regards, a case was filed by Md Saidul Karim (former DGM, Marketing) in the labour court on July 13, 2024. Another case was filed by Mizanur Rahman (former Store Manager) in labor court on August 27, 2024. A General Diary was filed in Uttra Thana, GD no-1079.
Dhaka Cotton has some sister Concerns, like JST Commodities Ltd, Union Textiles Ltd, Tarrid Limited, Tafrid Cotton Mills Ltd, and UW Cotton Mills Ltd.
Tafrid Cotton Mills Limited, a sister concern of Dhaka Cotton grabbed 1.11 acres of government demesne land, and 0.39 acres of private (Shohidul Islam) land in Bhaluka, Mymensingh in 2017.
