Portugal-Bangladesh trade body form

The Portugal-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce has been formed to strengthen bilateral relations and promote trade and business growth between the European country Portugal and Bangladesh.

Mohammad Jibon serves as the President and Abdul Ahad Salman as the Secretary of this chamber.

Additionally, the committee includes Vice President Mohammad Jamal Uddin, President General Assembly Mir Mohammad Shahrujjaman, Executive Director Pedro Jorge Pires, Director Rui Paulo Miguel Mauteinho, Legal Advisor Dr. Alexandre Cotano da Silva, Treasurer Anana Rahman, Co-Vice President of the Financial Division Rojane Livera Chaves, Accountant Helio, and Assistant Accountant Dr. Marisha.

It is worth mentioning that approximately 70,000 Bangladeshi expatriates reside in Portugal, out of which 50,000 regularly pay taxes. From Bangladesh, a total of 25,666 individuals have permanently settled in Portugal, including 20,395 males and 5,271 females.

In 2023, Bangladesh exported goods worth $114.97 million to Portugal, in contrast to importing goods worth $18.23 million. Among the goods exported from Bangladesh, textiles, home textiles, cotton, and non-cotton locally-made clothing are prominent. Over the past 6 years, the quantity of exports to Portugal has increased by 58%.
This year, remittances totaling $7.92 million in July, $6.56 million in August, $8.49 million in September, and $6.38 million in October have been received in Bangladesh from Portugal. Portugal has 50 mosques, 14 of which were built by Bangladeshi expatriates.

In the continuity of this trend, a strong bilateral relationship between Portugal and Bangladesh is being established with the goal of promoting trade and commerce. Today, the grand opening of the Portugal-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce is taking place in Portugal. Present at this business organization's event will be Portugal's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Nuno Santos, Lisbon's Mayor Carlos Moedas, representatives from Angola, the Brazilian Embassy, members of the PSD party in the Portuguese Parliament, the President of the Alvalade-Lisbon Junta de Freguesia, Thomas Gonçalves, CEO of the Aga Khan Foundation Dr. Karim Meralli, and several other members of Lisbon's business community.
