This year's flood in Feni has caused damage to more 64 thousands houses worth Tk 533 crore 89 lakh 70 thousand. This information is known from the source of the local district administration. Among them, 8 thousand 95 raw houses, 250 semi-finished houses were completely destroyed. The estimated loss is Tk 163 crore 11 lakh 70 thousand. In total, 64 thousand 415 houses faced total damage of Tk 533 crore 89 lakh 70 thousand. After investigation, it is known that the resident Asma Akhter in Jagatpur area of Fulgazi Upazila of the district was swept away by the strong current of water in this terrible flood. For the past one and a half months, she has been spending days with food crisis at a relative's house in the neighboring area with his family.

She said, despite not having much wealth, the family was living well with the children. But in a flash flood we are left with nothing. For so long many people have cooperated with food. Many have taken names for houses. But I still haven't got a house. Elderly Rezia Begum of Boxmahmud area of Parashuram, Feni lost her house in the flood. She said, “So many people came to take names in one and a half months ago. However, I have not found the house yet. I heard many people have donated money for us.

They are in Dhaka." How can I get a house? This situation is not only for Asma or the elderly Rezia, but hundreds of families in the whole township of Feni who have lost their homes in the worst floods in recent time. After visiting the ground, it has been seen that after the flood, various private organizations and voluntary organizations are working on rehabilitation. However, no government allocation has yet come for house construction or rehabilitation.

CNG autorickshaw driver Khokon Mia is a resident of Dakshin Jagatpur village in Fulgazi. On August 20, the settlement was swept away by the strong current of water. On that day, they managed to get out of the house with their lives to escape from the water, but they could not bring anything with them. Khokon lives with his wife and children in a small house of the irrigation scheme of the Water Development Board. He said, the flood has finished everything. CNG auto-rickshaws, the only source of income, are also stuck in erosion areas. A month has passed but there is no work. In this situation, it is not possible for me to build a new house without government assistance.

Another local resident named Sahab Uddin said, I used to live with my family by running a grocery store next to the embankment. The flow of flood water has messed everything up. Even after coming home from the shelter, I still could not enter the house. I am living in a cousin's house with my family. Osman Gani Russell of the District Volunteer Family Platform said that private initiatives, various NGOs and voluntary organizations are the only hope so far for the rehabilitation of flood victims. The government's relief fund or TSC's public relief money has not come yet. If the concerned people take initiative in this regard, people will at least have a place to rest their heads.

In this regard, Feni Deputy Commissioner Mushammad Shahina Akhtar said that 20,000 bundles of tin and Tk 6 crore cash have been requested from the relevant ministries to help the affected families. Apart from this, the administration is coordinating the work of the private institutions and organizations that have come forward to help in rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, according to the information received from the local district administration, 29 people lost their lives in this terrible flood in Feni. The dead included 17 men, 8 women and 4 children. 20 of them have been identified. The identity of the remaining 9 people was not found. . Feni district intelligence police said that out of the 29 dead, 8 people are from Feni Sadar, 3 people are from Daganbhuan, 7 people are from Fulgazi, 6 people are from Sonagazi, 3 people are from Chagalnaya and 2 people are from Parashuram.

District Commissioner Mushammat Shahina Akhtar confirmed the matter and said that an allocation of Tk 20 lakh has been requested from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief for humanitarian assistance to the families of the dead victims. Assistance will be provided to those families if allocated. On the other hand, several advisors of the government and top level officials of various departments of the government rushed to Feni after the flood. Among them, the advisor of the ministry of disaster management and relief, heroic freedom fighter Farooq-e-Azam, came on August 24.

He said, currently there is no helping hand or any group, where his road or house must be worked first. For this reason, the officials of the concerned department should work for the victims on priority basis considering the need.

Besides, on August 27, religious advisor Dr AFM Khalid Hossain visited the flood affected area. On September 21, Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Md Nahid Islam came to Feni to inspect the flood damage.

Adviser Nahid said at this time, since there are floods here every year, a permanent solution is needed. Discussions are ongoing on how to rehabilitate the dams to minimize damage. Now we are emphasizing on rehabilitation activities. The next day, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Water Resources, visited several areas of Feni affected by floods.

After visiting the Ballamukha Dam of Parashuram Upazila of the district, she said that she has come to the affected people to find out what solution they want. Local people said they were badly affected by the floods after neighboring countries opened dams. That's why we come here to understand our people's sufferings and expectations and talk to the upstream country accordingly.
