Winter has not yet arrived, but almost all types of winter vegetables including beans, cauliflower, cabbage, radish have arrived in the market. Meanwhile, despite the increased interest of buyers towards new vegetables, due to skyrocketing prices, the middle and lower class people are not able to afford it.

It has been seen that the price of winter vegetable beans is Tk 250 to 300 per kg. Cauliflower Tk70 to 80 and cabbage Tk 80 to 100.

These pictures were seen yesterday morning while visiting the market in Badda-Rampura area of the capital. Vendors say that the vegetable has been damaged by the continuous rain for a few days, due to which the price is a little higher than usual.

Almost all types of winter vegetables including beans, cauliflower, cabbage, radish, radish are seen in the market. There are eggplant, potl, shrimp, bitter gourd, tomato, cucumber, carrot and other vegetables. All vegetables are in good supply but prices are high as before. As a result, the buyers are not getting relief coming to the vegetable market. According to the information received from the vendors, the prices of most vegetables start at Tk60, 70, 80 and 90. New cauliflower pieces are selling at Tk 70-80, gourds at Tk 60-70, bitter gourd at Tk 80-90, brinjal at Tk 130-150, turnip at Tk 100-110, radish at Tk 100-130, raw papaya at Tk 40-45 per kg.

Apart from this, glass beads are being sold at Tk 40-55. Cucumber-carrot prices are not far behind. Country cucumbers are being sold at Tk 80-90, hybrid cucumbers at Tk 60-70 and manved carrots at Tk 100-130 per kg. Domestic onion is selling at Tk 110-120, imported onion at Tk 90-100, domestic ginger at Tk 500, imported ginger at Tk 280-300, domestic garlic at Tk 220, imported dry chilli at Tk 500 per kg.

Julhas Islam, a buyer said that the price of almost all vegetables in the market is above Tk 50-60. If the price of vegetables is so much relief, how? The market is full of vegetables. But in terms of price, it seems that these are rare species of vegetables. If you buy two or three kinds of vegetables, it will cost more than one hundred and fifty rupees. There is no way to buy vegetables except fish and meat. Basically low income people like us are in a lot of trouble.

He said, we thought that the new government would regulate the market properly, but nothing is happening so far. The market still remains in the hands of syndicates.

A student named Tanveer Reza said, Bachelor students like us are in a lot of trouble in the current market. Nothing is priced normally. In no way does the millrate (cost of food) come below 100 rupees, whereas earlier it used to be no more than 50/60 rupees even when eating very well. Having two tuitions, even if the price of everything increases, there is no change in our income.

Regarding the price of vegetables, Tanmoy Islam, the seller of Madhyabadda raw market, said that the price of vegetables is relatively low in the market. But the new ones are a bit more expensive. 2/4 items of vegetables including beans are being sold at slightly higher prices as they are not currently in season. If these vegetables start growing again, their prices will also decrease. He also said that the price of vegetables was not so much even 4 to 5 days ago. But the supply of vegetables in the market has reduced due to continuous rains in the last few days. From next month when the quantity of vegetables will increase, the price will come down.

Shahidul Islam, another shopper in the capital's Malibagh market, is a garment worker. After buying broiler chicken, he complained about the price and said that he cannot buy any other chicken because of the high price. When people like us buy chickens, they buy these broiler chickens. But the price of broiler chicken is also high in the current market. I heard from others that the government has reduced the price of broiler chicken, but when I came to the market, I had to buy broiler chicken at an increased price.

Showing one of the increase in prices, he said that a lot of chickens have been damaged in many farms due to floods in different parts of the country in the past few days. Due to which there is currently some shortage in the supply of chicken compared to the demand. Since the supply is less than the demand, the price of chicken is going up a bit. Even in 19 days the pricing performance was not seen in the market.

Another vegetable seller named Mahfuzur Rahman said that all kinds of vegetables come in the market at the end of the year. Now there is no shortage of vegetables. But the price is high. And there is a possibility that the price will come down after a few days. Because, then the amount of vegetables will increase. On September 15, the government decided the price of eggs and chicken at the retail, wholesale and producer levels. Even after 19 days of fixing the price, broiler-golden chicken is being sold in the market at the same higher price as before. Broilers are being sold at 10 taka more than the government price and golden chickens at 20 taka more.

Yesterday, it was seen that broiler is being sold at Tk190 per kg and golden chicken is being sold at Tk 290 per kg. Besides layer chicken Tk310 per kg, cock Tk 300 to 310 per kg. Besides, domestic chicken is being sold at Tk 650 to Tk 680 as before. Although the government had fixed the price of broiler and golden chicken only. The price of the rest has not been determined. At the retail level, the price of broiler chicken is fixed at Tk179.59 per kg, but it is being sold at Tk190 per kg in the market. Which is being sold in the market for more than Tk10 than the fixed price. Similarly, the price of golden chicken is set at Tk 269.64 per kg, but it is being sold at Tk 290 per kg in the market. Which is being sold in the market at more than Tk 20 per kg than the fixed price.

Rashedur Rahman, a private employee, has come to market in the capital's Mohakhali market on weekends. Regarding the price of chicken, he said, I heard in the media that the government has fixed the price of broiler and golden chicken. But I did not see any impact in the market. Broilers are being sold at Tk 190 per kg, and golden chickens are bought at Tk 290 per kg. There is no correlation between the fixed price and the market price. Tk 20 more per kg is being taken but there is no one to monitor it. No action is being taken against them. The concerned parties are silent only by fixing the price.
