Mango buds are swinging from tree to tree in Cumilla's Burichang Upazila. Some trees have started to have pods. This time 60 to 70 percent of trees in the upazila are budding. The Department of Agriculture Extension said that even if the buds are low, there will be good production if there is no natural disaster.
According to the information of the Upazila Agricultural Extension Department, this time the target of 1730 metric tons of mango production has been set. Last year, 120 hectares of land were cultivated in this upazila. 1100 metric tons of mangoes are produced from these orchards. Mango buds have started coming from the beginning of February. Buds will appear from March to mid-April. So far 70 percent of the trees have budded. Meanwhile, early varieties of mango trees in several areas have blighted. Farmers are busy taking care of these trees. However, most of the orchards have not yet sprouted. As a result, the farmers are spending a busy time tending to the buds.
Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Afrina Akter said, some trees have already developed small mangoes. About 192 hectares of land have been cultivated this time. He advised treating and spraying plants that have now developed goiter.
