The family of Gaibandha's Rubel fears for his future life due to lack of advanced treatment
While participating in the anti-discrimination student movement, Rubel Mondal (28) was shot in the head and body by police firing. Although it was possible to remove six bullets from his body, two bullets in his head are still causing unbearable pain. Rubel's family is worried about his future life due to lack of advanced treatment.
The injured Rubel Mondal is resident of Bara Shimultala Nayapara village in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha. Rubel moved to Dhaka 10 years ago to escape his family's poverty. He used to work in a garment named Reza Fashion in Vadail area of Ashulia. On August 4, Rubel was shot during a chase and counter-chase with police during the student movement.
Initially, six bullets were removed from his body, but doctors failed to remove two bullets from his head. Later, after examination at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Shamoli, it was informed that it is not possible to remove the bullet without advanced treatment. Since then, Rubel has been suffering from bullet pain in his head. Since returning home, he has been suffering from various diseases.
Rubel's wife Sathi Akhter and two children – daughter Ramana Akhter (5) and son Jihad Mia (3) are depended on Rubel's income. But after Rubel's injury, the family is now facing extreme crisis. Rubel's father Bablu Mondal is also ill, leaving no source of income left for the family.
Rubel Mondal said he and his wife both worked in garments before they were injured, but now both of them have no jobs. He received only first aid from the hospital after being shot, but he was not admitted. He only has one prescription for treatment. A few days ago, a bullet was taken out of Rangpur Combined Military Hospital (CMH), but two bullets are still in his head. One is stuck in the upper ear and the other in the back of the head. Due to these two bullets in the head, Rubel is constantly in pain.
He also urged, "My poor father himself is sick. I feel the need of treatment the most now. Give me treatment, I want to live."
Ziaur Rahman, a resident of Bara Shimultala village, said Rubel has difficulty sleeping every night due to headache. He needs immediate treatment to save his life. If not, his life is in danger of being extinguished. Rubel needs advanced treatment. But it is not possible for this poor family to run the medical expenses.
Palashbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kamrul Hasan said that after knowing the matter, food items were provided to the family of the injured Rubel. In addition, information has been sent to the higher authorities for his proper treatment.
