155 people have been awarded certificates in the first batch of Portuguese language education courses under the supervision of the Portugal-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce last Friday.

More than a thousand people are currently undergoing training. The certificate-awarding ceremony was held at the office of the Portugal Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, under the chairmanship of the organization‍‍`s President Md. Jiban.

Secretary General Abdul Ahad Salman said, the Portugal-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce is not only working to increase business, but also to create a blend of cultures and values between the two countries.

He said, our goal is to help Bangladeshi entrepreneurs enter new markets in Portugal and attract Portuguese investors to Bangladesh. A large number of Bangladeshis migrate to Portugal every year due to easy immigration and quick citizenship.

Salman said anyone can apply for Portuguese citizenship if they have been legally resident for five years, have a police clearance certificate, and have a Portuguese language education certificate. This course or certificate is important not only for citizenship but also for various work or business needs as an immigrant.

About 250 million people in the world speak Portuguese and it is the ninth most widely spoken language in the world.

In addition to Portugal and Brazil, Portuguese is spoken in several other regions, including Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, and Sao Tome. Therefore, knowing the language can provide special advantages in traveling or communicating in many countries or regions of the world.
The organization‍‍`s Vice President Md. Jamal Uddin, Assembly Mir Md. Shahruzzaman, Executive Director Pedro Jorge Pires, a delegation from the Portuguese Education Board, and Portuguese and Bangladeshi business representatives were present.
