Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan said Bangladesh Navy is being developed as a time-befitting and technology-equipped smart navy to materialise the dream of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure the country's sovereignty and security as well as play a leading role in sea-based economic activities.
He said this while addressing a parade as the chief guest at BNS Sher-e-Bangla Parade Ground at Kalapara in Patuakhali yesterday morning.
He also said different categories of ships, special forces, helicopters, MPAs and submarines have already been added to the naval fleet to build a prosperous navy and a number of naval bases have been commissioned. He highlighted the importance of smart and trained sailors to build a smart navy to face the challenges of the 21st century.
Later, a colorful graduation parade ceremony was held after the bootcamp training of 671 new sailors of the B/2023 batch of Bangladesh Navy. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan inspected the parade as the chief guest and took salute. Among the young sailors, Md Tahajjat Hossain Tapu received the 'Navy Chief Medal' as the best all-round sailor in professional and all subjects. Md Fardil Hossain and Asifur Rahman Asif were awarded 'Kamkhul Padak' and Sher-e-Bangla Padak respectively.
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel), Regional Commander of Khulna Naval Zone, GOC of Barishal District 7 Infantry Division and Area Commander, dignitaries of Patuakhali, Barishal and Khulna regions, high military and civil officials and guardians of the new sailors were present on the occasion.
