Police have arrested 627 people in 26 cases in Chittagong on charges of involvement in sabotage and using the anti-discrimination student movement as a shield for destruction.
They were arrested by conducting raids in different areas of Chittagong city and district till yesterday morning. It is known that so far Chittagong District Police has arrested 300 people in 11 cases and Metropolitan Police has arrested 327 people in 15 cases.
Chittagong District Superintendent of Police KM Shafiullah said that they have been arrested on the basis of clear evidence of their involvement in various sabotage activities. Apart from this, the operation to arrest other accused is continuing after reviewing the video footage of the violent incident, he said.
In this regard, CMP ADC (Media) Md Tarek Aziz said, 327 people have been arrested in 15 cases in CMP in connection with the violence surrounding the quota movement.
