An explosion occurred due to leakage of gas from main line on the road in Kanchpur area of Sonargaon, Narayanganj. Seven workers were burnt in this incident. The accident took place in front of Sonapur Lovely cinema hall in Kanchpur around 11 pm on Monday.
While two of the burn victims are out of danger, the remaining five have been admitted to Dhaka's National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in critical condition.
The injured are - Joy (20), Md Jahangir Alam (45), Md Sultan (24), Raju, Mizan (38), Ripon (38), Md Shahjalal.
A man named Rubel, who brought the injured to the hospital, said that on Monday night, the workers were installing street faucets in front of the Sonapur Lovely cinema hall in Kanchpur. While doing welding work there, an explosion occurred from the leakage of the gas main line.
Masud Rana, second officer of Sonargaon police station, said that he heard the incident of workers being burnt at night in Kanchpur area. Police have been dispatched to the scene. No one was found at the scene. However, the injured have been admitted to the burn unit for treatment.
