ACC to look into FMC Dockyard  MD’s TK 12,000cr embezzlement

The High Court (HC) today ordered Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to probe the allegations of embezzlement of around Taka 12,000 crore by FMC Dockyard chairman Mohammad Yasin Chowdhury.

 A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order in suo moto and also issued a rule in this regard. The court also ordered Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the allegations and set March 9 for holding further hearing in this regard.

 The High Court came up with the order as Advocate Md Khurshid Alam Khan brought newspaper reports on the alleged money embezzlement by the Chattogram businessman to the court‍‍`s attention. According to the newspaper reports, FMC Dockyard chairman Mohammad Yasin Chowdhury allegedly took around Taka 12,000 crore from different banks and persons and left the country. Several cases have already been lodged and the court has already issued arrest warrant against him. Chowdhury is said to be living a posh life in Dubai. He is one of the owners of Dubai-based franchise cricket team Bangla Tigers. He has launched many companies there.
