The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started a corruption investigation against former MP of Madaripur-1 and Chief Whip of the National Parliament Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton.
The ACC has started investigating the allegations of embezzlement of Tk 900 crore by pretending to be the fake owner of the over-acquired khas land for dumping sand for river excavation of the Padma Bridge project. A 3-member committee was formed and given the responsibility of this investigation.
ACC sources said that on January 7, the Anti-Corruption Commission formed a three-member investigation committee to investigate the incident of embezzlement of Tk 900 crore against Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton in a letter signed by Dhaka Deputy Director (Investigation and Investigation-1) Nargis Sultana. The committee is headed by ACC Deputy Director (Investigation and Investigation-1) Md. Khairul Haque and members are Madaripur Anti-Corruption Commission Assistant Director Akhtaruzzaman and Deputy Assistant Director Md. Saidur Rahman Apu.
On January 20, in a memorandum by the Anti-Corruption Commission, a letter signed by Deputy Director (Investigation and Investigation-1) and head of the investigation committee Md. Khairul Haque was sent to the Madaripur Deputy Commissioner requesting information and records related to the Char Khas land acquired by the Padma Bridge project.
Md. Akhtaruzzaman, a member of the investigation committee and Assistant Director of the Madaripur Anti-Corruption Commission, said that in the wake of the complaint, a three-member investigation committee was formed from the ACC head office. I am there as a member. We have given a request to the Madaripur Deputy Commissioner to provide information and records related to the investigation of the relevant project. We are supposed to complete our investigation report within the next 45 working days, and we are taking the work forward accordingly.
Madaripur Deputy Commissioner Yasmin Akhter said that if any irregularities are investigated, we will provide all kinds of cooperation, including information, to the Anti-Corruption Commission for a fair and impartial investigation.
