Allegations have been made against public representatives for taking bribes for allotment of houses in Guchchagram project at Chilmari in Kurigram.
Those homeless people are disappointed because they did not get a house even after paying bribe. The incident took place in Khauriarchar Guchchagram project of Nayarhat union in Durgam Char area of the upazila.
Even after the completion of the construction of the project houses, 80 houses of the project are locked due to not being handed over to the homeless.
It is known that a cluster of 80 houses has been constructed under the Guchchagram 2nd Phase (CVRP) project under the Ministry of Lands in the financial year 2023-24 in the South Khauriarchar area of Nayarhat Union of the upazila.
Under the supervision of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and the Project Implementation Office, the total cost of constructing those 80 houses of char pattern is Tk 1 crore 98 lakh 88 thousand at the rate of Tk 2 lakh 48 thousand 600 each house.
80 separate houses were constructed in Guchchagram to house 80 homeless families. Even though the construction work of the houses has been completed for a long time, the houses are not being allotted due to unknown reasons.
Meanwhile, when the local homeless people went to get house allocation, many people said that the public representatives opened the business.
The chairman of the union, local Awami League leader Asaduzzaman Asad, has been accused of stealing various amounts of money from various people through some UP members, and trading at two points of the river.
Going to the shelter project on the ground, it can be seen that even though the project work has been completed, the houses are locked due to not being handed over due to unknown reasons. Meanwhile, Fatema Begum of Dakshin Khauria area of Nayarhat Union said that Hamid, a member of the shelter project, demanded Tk 15,000 from her. I gave Tk 13 thousand to the member in desperation. Now I got neither house nor money.
Kobila Begum (55), wife of Idris Ali of the same area, said that I gave Tk 15,000 to the Kala Chan member to get a shelter. I want the money back without getting the house. Not giving that.
Sharif Mondal said that he paid Tk 42 thousand to the Chairman's Loka Zahurul for the two houses. Now I am not getting the money back and I am not getting the house. Mo Shariful Islam said that he gave 17 thousand taka to Asad chairman for a room.
Naib Ali Hossain said I paid Tk 15 thousand. Also, a person named Zainal Abedin complained that I and my partner gave Tk 70,000 to Asad Chairman for two ghats in the area. Still haven't given me any documents of my ghat. People don't let me go on boats. I run a family on a boat, what do I do now?
Nayarhat Union Parishad Chairman Md Asaduzzaman Asad said, I have no advantage regarding the house in Guchchagram. They are making these complaints out of jealousy for my good work.
Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Md Mosharof Hossain said, applications have been taken from locals to get houses. These will be scrutinized and the beneficiaries will be selected soon.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Naeem Uddin said, I have taken responsibility for a few days, I am not aware of the matter. If complaints are received, necessary measures will be taken.
