Battery-powered easybike increase on highway

Battery-powered rickshaws and three-wheelers are increasing on the highway in Savar, due to which road accidents are increasing. Battery-powered rickshaws and three-wheelers are running recklessly on the Dhaka-Aricha, Nabinagar-Chandra and Abdullahpur bypass highways. These battery-powered rickshaws and three-wheelers are ignoring the government ban and are disrupting the movement of all types of public transport, including long-distance vehicles, CNG taxis, battery-powered rickshaws, Lagunas, and various vehicles. Due to the drivers of these slow-moving vehicles driving almost recklessly on the highway, not only it is taking longer to transport passengers and goods, but accidents are also occurring.

A recent such incident occurred at Jahangirnagar University (JU). A student died after colliding with a battery-powered rickshaw. The deceased student name is Afsana Rachi. She is a student of the 53rd batch of the university's marketing department. The accident occurred in front of the university's new art building at around 6:30 pm on November 19. Following the death of JU student Afsana Rachi after being hit by a battery-powered rickshaw, university students have been protesting demanding a ban on battery-powered rickshaws and three-wheelers.

It is learned that more than 10 road accidents have occurred in the last one week due to battery-powered rickshaws, three-wheelers, easy bikes and CNG on the Dhaka-Aricha and Nabinagar-Chandra highways, Abdullahpur by-pass highways. Although battery-powered rickshaws and three-wheelers are banned, various illegal vehicles are roaming on the Dhaka-Aricha Nabinagar and Chandra Abdullahpur by-pass highways.

These battery-powered auto rickshaws and three-wheelers are suddenly coming out of the alleys of the city and moving onto the highway at a reckless speed. Accidents are happening frequently. These illegal vehicles are running alongside fast long-distance buses. The highway police have been accused of allowing these battery-powered rickshaws and CNG to run right in front of the administration. However, the police say that all these rickshaws and CNG are running in the name of some unscrupulous broker journalists.

It is known that battery-powered rickshaws are made by locally combining low-quality domestic parts with imported parts from outside the country. This consumes a huge amount of electricity illegally every day. Battery-powered rickshaws were banned in 2015 after they were identified as a cause of traffic jams and accidents on the highway. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has also banned low-speed vehicles including auto-rickshaws on the highway.

Abdul Motaleb, a driver of Rabeya Paribahan, who plies on Dhaka-Aricha Road, said that driving is the responsibility of the driver for battery-powered and CNG-powered auto-rickshaws! They suddenly come in front, making it difficult to control the car. Due to which road accidents are happening frequently. The number of these vehicles is increasing day by day due to the lack of any legal system. Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Md Saugatul Alam said that banned three-wheelers will not be allowed to ply on the highway at all. Highway police raids are going on every day, arrests are being made and cases are being filed. I do not know anything about money transactions.
