In the Maghapora Bill area of Daulatpur Haor in Gopdighi, Mithamoin, Kishoreganj, a chicken trader from Elangjuri Union in Itna Upazila was beaten to death and looted in the dark of the night on August 22.
Even though a long time has passed since the incident, the accused are still at large. On the other hand, the family of the deceased is going door to door demanding the arrest and trial of the accused. The deceased, Sagar Mia (24), is the son of Shukhan Mia, a chicken trader from Kabilapara in Elangjuri Union.
Relatives of the deceased's family said that on August 22, he spent the whole day selling chickens in the Gopdighi market in Mithamoin and collecting money. It became a bit late. Nevertheless, the deceased Sagar set off with his father and uncle from Gopdighi Bazar in Mithamoin Upazila to his home in Kabila Para village of Elangjuri Union in Itna Upazila with his own boat.
Every now and then, as soon as he reached the Moghapora Bill area of Daulatpur Haor near Sharifpur village, he would stop the boat pretending to be a Jalmahal mountaineer and beat up 5 people indiscriminately. At that time, Sagar was injured while trying to sell chickens and fell from the boat into the water and drowned. He was later rescued dead.
In this incident, on August 26, the father of the deceased Sagar, Shukhan Mia, filed a case against 11 people at the Mithamoin Police Station. The father of the deceased Sagar claimed that after the case, he handed over one accused to the police on his own initiative, while the rest of the accused are out of reach.
He also said, "We are poor and helpless people, so why won't we get proper justice?" I am repeatedly going to the police station, going to the CID office, running around in many places but to no avail. I want justice for my son's killers.
UP Chairman Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan (Rubel) has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder of the deceased Sagar and exemplary punishment by taking legal action against them.
Meanwhile, maximum efforts are being made to catch the accused, said Mithamin Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiul Alam. He said that one person has already been arrested and handed over to the court and efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accused as soon as possible.
