Government houses have been handed over to 187 families in housing adjacent to Suganadhiya Hat in Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila. The houses are constructed for the landless and poor families. But there is no primary school around the housing project area. There is no special education system for residential children. Therefore, the children of 187 families are deprived of the light of education. As a result, children are dropping out prematurely.
It is known that the housing project was constructed in 2023 on the bank of Kalijira River adjacent to Suganadhiya Hat of Binaykathi Union of Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila. 187 houses were constructed for the landless and destitute. Beneficiaries are transferred with execution of deeds in favor of each house. All facilities are provided for each house as per government norms. But there is a problem in the education system. There is no primary school in the housing project or in the surrounding area.
Although there is a primary school in Karapur area of Barishal Sadar area across the Kalijira river that flows through the border of Jhalkathi and Barishal districts, its distance is about two and a half kilometers. Sugandhiya Government Primary School is also more than 3 kilometers away.
As landless and poor family members live, every family has 2/3 children. Altogether there is no educational system for more than five hundred children either by government or private initiative.
Giyas Uddin Sardar, a senior resident of the housing project, expressed his anger and said that although the housing project was constructed, the children of the project remained illiterate as there was no school-madrasa here. Several residents including Kalam Howladar, Abdul Barek Bepari, who lives in the project, said that since there is no school in the project, no organizations have not taken the initiative to run a mobile school in the community center here. So there is no private organization school. They also said that the children do not want to go to school as the distance of the schools from the project area is three kilometers. As a result, most of the children here are illiterate.
Md Abul Kasem Sardar, another resident of the housing project, said that the road for traveling to the housing center is also in bad condition. As a result, the residents are suffering.
He also said that as there is no educational institution in the residence, most of the children here are deprived of education and are separated from the education life by joining work with family members at an early age. The residents of the housing project sought the intervention of concerned authorities to build a school to enlighten their children in the light of education as well as solve the transportation problem quickly.
Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Mozammel Haque said that houses have been allotted to 187 landless and poor families in the Sugandhia Housing Project. There is no school in or near the residential area. What is there is also far away. The higher authorities concerned will be informed about the educational institution. Any directives and allocations from the government will be properly implemented.
