Dr Mohammad Khalekuzzaman, a prominent agricultural scientist of the country, took charge as Director General (Routine Duties) of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) at yesterday.
Before joining this post, he served as Director (Research) of the Institute. He joined the institute as a scientific officer in 1994 and has been serving in various positions for the last 30 years. Dr Khalekuzzaman was born in 1967 in Harisangan village of Belabo upazila of Narsingdi district. He passed SSC (Science Department) in 1982 and HSC (Science Department) in 1984. He obtained BSc AG Honors degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1988 and MS degree in 1996.
In 2003, he received his PhD from the University of Southampton, UK. He is currently one of the senior scientists in the research institutes under the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) of Bangladesh. 70 of his research articles have been published in renowned journals of the country and abroad. He has traveled to various countries including United Kingdom, China, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Belgium, Maldives, Nepal, India, and Vietnam for research related work. In personal life, he is the father of two children.
