Police arrested eight members of an inter-district robbery gang in connection with multiple robberies on Dhaka-Mawa and Dhaka-Chattogram highways in Munshiganj.
A foreign-made pistol, three magazines and 28 rounds of bullets were recovered from their possession.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shamsul Alam Sarkar disclosed this at a press briefing at his office in the district yesterday.
He said that for a long time, members of this gang have committed several robberies by stopping vehicles at a secluded place on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Mawa highways and holding the drivers and passengers hostage at gunpoint. Later, they were arrested in raids at different places using modern information technology.
The SP also said that those involved in the organized robbery by stopping vehicles at different places on the highway will be identified soon and brought under the law soon.
