Ex-UP gets life term for rape

The court sentenced former UP member Jamrul Islam Mondal (52) to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000 for raping a seventh grade schoolgirl in Rajbari's Pangsa.

Judge (District Judge) Md Sabbir Foez of the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Court gave the verdict yesterday afternoon. Jamrul Islam is the son of Sirajul Islam Mandal of Jaikrishnapur village of Bahadurpur Union and former UP member of Ward No 8 of Bahadurpur Union.

According to the case, a seventh grade school girl of Bahadurpur Union of Pangsha Upazila went missing from her home on the night of February 25, 2022.

In this incident, on March 1 of that year, the girl's father filed a case of kidnapping at Pangsha Model Police Station. In the wake of the case, the police arrested the accused Jamrul from the accused's own house and rescued the student.

Advocate Saiful Islam, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) of Rajbari Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal said that Jamrul Islam has been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20,000 to Mandal for abduction and rape in the case.
