Extensive power outage in rural areas of Kendua

- Education disrupts severely

-24MW needed, 6 to 8MW are available

- Production and power-dependent activities disrupted

-Working hour is wasting for power lacking

There is frequent load shedding in Kendua upazila of Netrakona for a week. There is extensive load shedding in the rural areas compared to the city. As a result, students study is being disrupted. Rural life has become boring. According to Palli Vidyut sources, this situation has arisen because the supply is less than the demand.

According to Kendua regional office of Rural Electricity Association, there are about 22,000 consumers of rural electricity in 13 unions including one municipality in this upazila. Apart from this, the number of customers is increasing day by day. In this situation, the amount of electricity demand in the upazila is about 24 megawatts. But only six to eight megawatts are available. As a result, it is not possible to supply electricity according to the demand of customers.

Some customers said that although there is electricity in the upazila headquarters, there is no more than 3-4 hours of electricity in rural areas for a week. Every evening (peak hour) the power goes out. Apart from this there is load shedding at least 10-12 times from morning to late night. Once the power goes out, it comes back an hour to two hours later. From day-to-day activities to trade, factory production and power-dependent activities are being disrupted due to continuous load shedding and frequent power outages. Apart from this, due to the electricity going off in the evening, the education of the students is more disturbed.

Salim Uddin, a resident of Mozaffar Pur Union of the upazila, expressed his anger and said that there is extensive load shedding in the rural areas compared to the city.

There is no electricity even during prayers. We cannot even pray properly. There is often no electricity. Power comes on after a few hours, and then goes off after a while. Students suffer due to load shedding. Due to lack of continuous electricity connection, students are suffering more.

Ashraful, Nadeem, Lyon, students of Ganda Union of the upazila said, why is there less electricity in the rural areas compared to the city? I didn't understand. Due to lack of electricity at the time of need, it is difficult to study. This is causing a lot of damage to our education.

Mojibur Rahman, Deputy General Manager of Kendua Palli Vidyut Samiti said, "In normal times, the electricity demand was 16 megawatts during the day and 22 megawatts during the night. Due to the intense heat, the demand for electricity has increased to 20 MW during the day and 24 MW during the night. Again after 12 midnight we are getting only 8 megawatts of electricity. We are not getting power as per demand.

As a result of which we are not able to provide uninterrupted service to the customers. He also said that due to the presence of army camps, hospitals, government offices and various important establishments, load shedding in rural areas is more than in cities. And due to load shedding, students' education is being disrupted. He also said that if the electricity production is normal, the problem of load shedding will be solved.
