A case of extortion has been filed against 24 people, including former Member of Parliament (MP) and General Secretary of Central Krishak League Umme Kulsoom Smriti of Gaibandha-3 (Sadullapur-Palashbari) Constituency. Harinathpur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman of Palashbari Upazila filed this case in the court yesterday afternoon and confirmed the case of Kabir Hossain Jahangir.
The accused in the case were, Atiq, Abdul Latif, Shahrul Islam, Rabbi Mia, Rezaul Karim, Sujan Mia, Mostafizur Rahman Babu, Salim Mia, Kamran Mirza Shipon, Saju Mia, Jinnat Ali, Ahsanul Kabir Bitu, Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Majid, Chaku Mia, Anishur Rahman, Misor Sarker, Mustafa Pradhan, Sabuj Mia, Amjad Hossain, Anwar Hossain Mithu, Hudaifa Mia and Manjurul Morshed. Besides, 15-20 unknown people have been accused in the case.
On February 27, the defendants demanded a contribution of Tk 10 lakh from the plaintiff. It is mentioned in the affidavit of the case that he was threatened that he would not be allowed to stay in the area including killing him if he did not pay the money. Palashbari Administrative Court accepted the case and ordered Palashbari upazila nirbahi officer to investigate.
