Five held in Manikganj

 

Two people were hacked and five others injured in a clash over the handle of a dredger in Manikganj. Police arrested five people in this connection.

The detainees are former Chatra Dal leaders Anwar Hossain Anu, Nazrul Islam, Rony Mia, Tuhin and Raihan.

The attack took place in Bhararia area of Manikganj Sadar and Balara area of Harirampur upazila from Wednesday afternoon till 9pm.

The injured Ibrahim Ahmed (25), son of Sona Mia of Bhararia area, is undergoing treatment at Manikganj 250-bed Hospital and Joynal Abedin (30), son of Ismail Mollah, is undergoing treatment at Pangu Hospital in Dhaka.

Locals said Rony and Sumon of the area and Anwar Hossain Anu, a resident of Balara and former organizing secretary of Balara Union Chatra Dal, brought a handle of Sohag's dredger in Bhararia area on Wednesday afternoon. Anwar, Roni, Bulbul and Sumon and some others had an altercation with Sohag at Malakar intersection in Bhararia. At one stage, Sohag's men beat up Anwar and Rony and others.

As a result, Anwar along with his locals attacked various business establishments in Bhararia Bazar and hacked Ibrahim and Joynal with locally made weapons. Idris Ali's 'Bhai Bhai Sports Corner', Yusuf Ali's 'Sufian Pharmacy' and 'Ayesha Abed' cosmetics shops were vandalized. In view of this, the people of Bhararia area also vandalized some shops including Salam medicine shop in Balara Bazar.

Harirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mumin Khan said, "On information, a team of ours and Sadar Police Station went to the spot at night. The main incident took place in Sadar police station area. Preparations are underway to take legal action against the arrestees."

Sadar Police Station OC SM Amanullah said the situation in the area is calm now. A case has been filed in this regard.
