Four villages under threat of erosion

The people of four villages of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia are in fear due to the continuous erosion of Padma River. The four villages include Talbaria, Bahalbaria and vast areas including Sahebnagar and Mirzanagar.

The people of the area are at peace with the houses that were under the influence of destruction, the cultivated land of the field has been lost in the river. At risk are 5 high voltage power towers. Although the water development board has been informed repeatedly to prevent the river from breaking, the authorities have not yet taken any measures to construct a dam. The people of the area have also carried out the program of encircling the Water Development Board Kushtia with human bonds to save themselves from the continued breach of the all-consuming Padma. It doesn't work.

Kushtia-2 (Mirpur Bheramara) Former Member of Parliament BNP National Executive Committee member Bir muktijoddha Professor Shahidul Islam informed the Chief Engineer of the Water Development Board to prevent the breach of Padma, he said to inform the DG.

After Shahidul Islam informed the DG about the incident in detail, he told Rashidur Rahman, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Kushtia, to take immediate action. After that there is no work. It has been alleged that the executive engineer has secretly started a relationship with the Awami League contractor.

Rashidur Rahman, executive engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board, Kushtia, said that the work of placing geo bags and tube bags in the erosion-prone areas including Sahebnagar embankment is going on very fast. Apart from this, the construction of permanent dam will start within one and a half to two months if the situation is normal.

Rashidur Rahman, executive engineer of the Water Development Board, also said that the water in the river has increased by 2-3 centimeters due to continuous rain. Apart from this, the erosion in the area has intensified due to the change in the course of the river and the inclement weather. We have kept the matter under observation. I also visited the scene. Rapid installation of geo bags and geo tubes has started to protect important structures including power transmission towers and embankments. After the emergency situation, work on the project will begin for a permanent solution to prevent erosion.
