And in the wholesale market, each kg of raw chili is now selling at Tk 400. That is, the difference between wholesale and retail market prices is Tk 100. Vegetable sellers said that never before in Barisal, the price of green chilies was Tk 500 per kg.
This is the highest price in the history of Barishal. He also said that raw chilies are being sold at Tk 500 per kg in the retail market for two days. However, in the wholesale market at yesterday, green chilies were sold at Tk 300 to Tk 320 per kg. Later I bought it in case of need. Sirajul Islam Dulal, a wholesale trader of Barisal City Market, said that the import of vegetables is less than the demand in the market due to the recent floods in the northern region and heavy rains across the country. And because of this, the price of vegetables has increased in the wholesale market in several rounds this month which has also affected the retail market.
Sumi Rani Mitra, assistant director of the Barisal district of the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, said that the retailers bought green chilies at the rate of Tk 425 from the wholesale market. They showed us the purchase memo. He also said that the point to be seen in our consumer rights is whether they sell at a price more than 25% of the purchase price. Action will be taken against anyone who sells green chilies at more than 25% of the purchase price.
