Houses burnt to ashes in Ulipur

A terrible fire occurred due to an electrical short circuit in Ulipur of Kurigram. The fire incident took place in Patilapur village of Daldalia union of the upazila on Wednesday (September 18) night. Three houses, furniture, two cows and two goats were burnt to ashes in the fire. According to the victim's family, there has been an estimated loss of Tk 5 lakh.

It is reported that the fire started in the cowshed due to an electrical short circuit in the house of Abul Hossain in that area on Wednesday night. The fire quickly spread to the neighboring houses as dry jute was stored in the barn. A unit of Ulipur Fire Service managed to bring the fire under control with the help of local people after an hour of effort. Cowsheds, homesteads, furniture, paddy-rice and other items were burnt to ashes before the fire was brought under control.

Jobeda Begum, wife of Abul Hossain of the affected family, said that her family has become destitute in the fire. Nothing to eat and wear.

Ulipur Fire Service and Civil Defense station leader Abdur Razzak Mondal said that the fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit. However, the amount of damage will be determined subject to investigation
