Investigation report not found in 12 days

Although 12 days have passed since the death of Abu Sayed, who was shot by the police during the quota movement, the investigation committee formed has not submitted any report.

An unarmed Abu Sayed was shot dead by the police while participating in an anti-quota movement in front of the gate of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) in Rangpur last Tuesday (July 16). He fell to the ground after being shot by the police which was seen on various social media and confirmed by multiple eyewitnesses.

In this incident, two separate investigation committees were formed by the police and the university administration. But so far neither the university nor the police investigation committee has been able to publish or submit any report.

After the death of Abu Sayed last Thursday (July 18), the university authorities formed a 3-member investigation committee by summoning the head of the management studies department of the university, Professor Dr. Matiur Rahman, to investigate the incident of the clash at the university gate, vandalism, arson and the death of Abu Sayed.

It was also mentioned to submit the report to the inquiry committee as soon as possible after the formation of the committee. However, it was reported that there was no progress in the investigation committee formed by the university. Moreover, they did not take any visible action.

The convener of the committee, Dr. Matiur Rahman, said, "The campus is closed, we could not start work in that sense." In this case, only the secondary signs that are there have been collected. We are reviewing them.

He also said that teachers, students, officials and eyewitnesses should be spoken to in this regard. If someone wants to give evidence, it must be collected. Then the report should be submitted. But since the campus is closed now it is not possible to collect them.

The convener also said that we will give a notification when the campus opens, if anyone wants to help us with any information, then let them help with proof. Since the university is closed indefinitely, it is not certain when the submission can be made.

Meanwhile, on July 17, the police filed a case in Tajhat police station in the name of 2-3 thousand unidentified protestors.

About the FIR of the case in this regard, Begum Rokeya University police outpost in-charge Bibhutibhushan told the media, I have just filed a case. The investigating officer will verify the information.

Meanwhile, the police formed a 5-member investigation committee on the incident of clash with the protesters and the death of Abu Sayed the next day on July 17. Rangpur Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Saifuzzaman Faruqi has been asked to submit the report within 7 working days. However, even after 12 days of the incident, they have not submitted any report.

An attempt was made to contact Rangpur Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner and Head of Investigation Committee Saifuzzaman Faruqi on mobile phone. But he did not receive the call.
