Many families in Beradi village of Boalmari upazila of Faridpur are unable to seek legal recourse even after being attacked, fearing that if they file a case or seek police assistance, they will be attacked again. It is reported that some of these people, who are victims of the mischief and factionalism of the local BNP leader, are even fleeing their homes.
The families of the victims of the attacks said that since the change of power on August 5, Satair Union BNP President Zakir Hossain TI and his associate Delwar Hossain, along with Union BNP Vice President Idris Mollah, Tariqul Islam and Jubo Dal leader Bayezid Mollah, have formed an alliance of 40-50 people and are committing various atrocities and attacks on the people of the opposition locally.
They claim that the group demands money from the people of the opposition, and if they do not pay, they attack and loot houses. In the meantime, many people have been injured in their attacks, but one is on the verge of becoming disabled.
Dalil Uddin Sheikh of Beladi said that on November 17, after leaving for Maghrib prayers, 10-12 people led by Delwar Hossain's nephew Jubo Dal leader Bayezid Mollah first punched and then beat him. Many people stood by and watched, but no one came forward to help them out of fear.
Abul Mallick said that on October 21, after Maghrib prayers, 15-16 people attacked Beladi Bazar while they were having tea at a shop, beating them with hammers and sticks, seriously injuring them.
In this regard, Zakir Hossain TI, the president of Satair Union BNP, could not be reached even after calling him on his mobile phone several times.
And Delwar Hossain said that he regularly stays in Dhaka. He does not know anything about the area. He claims that he is not involved in any kind of attack or looting.
On the other hand, Satair Union BNP Vice President and UP member Idris Molla said, "In the past, former UP Chairman Mujibur Rahman and his people attacked and vandalized three of our shops and a house. We filed a case with the police station but did not get any results."
However, he said he did not know anything about the attack on the opponent's house.
Officer-in-charge of Boalmari Police Station Golam Rasul said that no one informed the Boalmari Police Station about these matters. Therefore, no case was filed.
