Directorate of Geological Survey has started exploration work for a new metal mine in Pirganj of Rangpur. Modern machinery has been installed to conduct mining exploration through drilling, only lifting is left. Experts said that the mine may contain other mineral resources including copper and iron. It will take 2-3 months to know. The concerned said that initial exploration of metal mining was carried out in the same union in 1965 and Department of Geological Survey found valuable granite stones in Madhyapara of Dinajpur In 1974.
Since 1994, five and a half thousand metric tons of granite stones are being extracted from this mine every day. In 1985 Bara Pukuria coal mine was discovered in this district. Where the amount of reserves is 39 million metric tons of coal. Apart from large ponds, there are several coal mines in this division. Mines may contain copper, iron and other mineral resources. Ali Akbar, director of Bangladesh Geological Survey said that it will take two to three months to know that. The mineral resources exist here. This is huge, it can change the economy of the country.
Locals said, whether it is iron, copper or gold in the mine, it will contribute not only to Pirganj but also to the entire country. When exploration and extraction of mineral resources begins, the standard of life of the people in the region will be changed. Moreover, Bangladesh Geological Survey Directorate found an iron mine in Hakimpur of Dinajpur in 2019. Apart from high-quality iron, valuable copper, nickel and chromium are also found in the mine. It is believed that there are about 500-600 million metric tons of mineral resources.
