A baby crocodile was caught in the fishing net in Padma river in Rajbari. which the locals beat to death.
The baby crocodile was caught in the net of fisherman Salam Talukdar in Antar Mor area of Sadar Upazila yesterday morning. Jale Salam Talukder is the son of Habibur Rahman Talukder of Dhalla Char area of Pabna.
The locals said that when the baby crocodile came up in the net, the locals thronged to have a look. But soon after it was released from the net, some youths and children beat Elopathari with sticks and beat the baby crocodile to death and threw it on the river bank.
Fisherman Salam Talukder said, after pulling the net, I thought a big fish had been caught. But later I saw a baby crocodile.
The presence of crocodiles in the Padma river has become a cause of panic for us. After this incident, many people are now afraid to catch fish in the river.
