Allegations of extortion for admit cards

A complaint has been received at the Government Nalchity Degree College in Jhalakathi that Tk 300 was collected from each student in the name of distributing admit cards for the 2022 degree pass and certificate course third year examination.

The victim students and their guardians submitted a written complaint to Nalchity Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nazrul Islam yesterday afternoon.

According to the complaint source, the Government Nalchity Degree College was nationalized in 2018. As such, all the activities of the college are supposed to be conducted in accordance with government rules and regulations. But the office assistants of the college, Mahfuzur Rahman and Uttam Kumar Malo, have been committing irregularities and corruption in various official activities of the college for a long time. They misbehave with the students of the college and when the students ask them about anything, they get angry and misbehave. Moreover, they charge Tk 30 from students for getting certificates from the college. They also charge Tk 200 to 300 for exam admit cards. They do not give any receipt for taking the money. In addition, they have to pay money to get certificates, mark sheets and testimonials from the college. If they do not pay, they are subjected to various harassments.

Some students and guardians complained that money is being collected for giving students' admit cards during the exam and no one is being given admit cards without money. In addition, since former principal Rafiqul Islam is absconding after the fall of the government, currently Prabhasak Nuruzzaman has been given the responsibility. There are many seniors who are supposed to get the responsibility. According to former principal Rafiqul, he is running the college.

Acting principal of the college Nuruzzaman said that there is no provision for taking money for admit cards, but there are some expenses at the center, which are taken for this. Many people pay and many do not.

When we called Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazrul Islam in this regard, it was not possible to contact him as he did not receive the call.
