Prospective candidates busy wooing voters

Rajshahi's Godagari Upazila Parishad elections will be held in the first phase on May 8. Ahead of the elections, the Prospective candidates are busy with public relations and iftar mahfils. Godagari Upazila, known as the heart of the Barendra region, consists of 9 Union Parishads and 2 Municipalities. One of the most important upazilas of the district was elected chairman candidate of the Jatiya Party, Awami League, and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). In the last election, Awami League's Jahangir Alam was elected with the boat symbol.

Godagari Municipal Awami League president and businessman Rabiul Alam, Deopara Union Parishad Chairman Belaluddin Sohel,

Sunandan Das Ratan, Jamaat-e-Islami Rajshahi District (West) Abdul Khalek, Abdur Rahman Mohseni of Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), BNP leader Sajedur Rahman Markani doing mass communication and exchange of views as a possible chairman candidate. Four possible candidates of Awami League are close to local MP Omar Farak Chowdhury.

He (MP) has instructed the leaders and workers to work for Jahangir Alam in the polls. Sufia Begum Mili, current Vice Chairman and President of Upazila Mahila League, General Secretary and former member of Zilla Parishad Krinchadevi, Umm Kulsoom Memory, Women Affairs Secretary of District Sechsevak League as the Women Vice Chairman candidates. Sufia Khatun Milli was elected unopposed in the last election. Shafikul Sarkar, former president of Upazila Jubo League, Municipal Awami League joint-secretary Nazmul Haque and Municipal Jubo League General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun, Bimal Chandra Rajwad, Muhammad Kamruzzaman as vice chairman. In the last election, the current vice chairman Abdul Malek Shafiqul Sarkar was defeated. The remaining three are new to the election.
