Bamboo shako is the only hope of about 20,000 people in Ward No. 4 of Sandwip Municipality along with Ward No. 4/5 on the canal on Monsad Haji road.
In this, school-college students and the relatives of the patients have to suffer. Small and big accidents are almost happening in this Sanko. For a long time, there was a demand for the construction of a bridge at the place, but it was not implemented. It can be seen on the ground that the bridge built at this place collapsed about 18 years ago, since then, bamboo shako with a length of 100 meters was built on the canal of Mansad Haji road by the efforts of the villagers. Every year since its construction, villagers collect bamboo and repair the shako themselves.
At present hundreds of students of various educational institutions and hundreds of people of different ages have to cross this bridge every day with the risk of their lives. It is known that small and big accidents happen every day by talking to some residents of the area, for 17-18 years, local people have been moving on the canal by making sandocks. 300-400 school-college-madrasa students are traveling by this shako daily.
Kamal Uddin, a local resident, said, "The middle loft of the bamboo shako has been broken to the east. When shako gets up, the body sneezes. We very carefully crossed Sanko to pray in the mosque. A long time has been assured that there is no one to see before the mayoral election but after the election. We demand the construction of the bridge from the present administration.
Abdul Motin, a local resident, said, "I travel through this road regularly because of my own needs, and I see that most of the children, women and old people are admitting to the accident while crossing the bridge. They are helpless and demand the construction of the bridge along with the renovation of this road.'
Nurul Afsar, a local resident, said, "This road is about two kilometers from the main paved road, which is the cause of the suffering of the people of the village. During the rain, the roads collapsed and the pedestrians passed the day in extreme suffering in the mud and water. As there is no action to repair the road, all the students including the locals are suffering regularly. No one can see the pathetic condition of this road during the monsoon season. But the road is the only hope of movement of thousands of people in the village. By traveling to different schools and madrasahs. Dead people have to suffer a lot in crossing over. There is no electricity connection, no connecting bridge and culvert on this populated road. Even though the road was built a long time ago, there is no renovation and road repair work. Later, the villagers collect bamboo and money and repair the bamboo pole, placing it on the bamboo pole somehow they are crossing at risk.
Sandwip is progressing in development but Mansad Haji road of municipality 4th ward is lagging behind. Currently, Sandwip is going to become a modern island. On one hand, Sandwip is called as a role model for development. At that time, a different picture can be seen when you see the Mansad Haji road and connection bridge of the municipality known as the city of Sandwip.
In this regard, Sandwip Municipal Engineer Rabiul Islam said that for some bridges including this bridge, we have submitted the project to the local government.
Sandwip Municipality Administrator Tasfiq Sifat Ullah said that I am joining as a new administrator and I have not visited many areas of the municipality.
