Dipankar Talukder, President of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment, Forests and Climate Change, inaugurated the year-long "Tanchangya Language Alphabet Training" program at Wagga High School in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati. He inaugurated the training program as the chief guest at yesterday morning. Rangamati Zilla Parishad member Diptimoy Talukdar presided over the inaugural function of this training workshop funded by Rangamati Hill District Council.
Rangamati Hill District Council member Angsui Chain Chowdhury, newly elected chairman of Kaptai Upazila Parishad Nashir Uddin, vice chairman Suipru Marma, chairman of No. 5 Wagga Union Parishad, Chiranjit Tanchangya, secretary general of Bangladesh Tanchangya Welfare Association, Mrinal Kanti Tanchangya and others were present as special guests. Besides, various dignitaries and parents of local and Rangamati district were present in the event. Chandrasen Tanchangya, one of Tanchangya community's literary, language activist and teacher, has been appointed as an instructor in the training workshop.
Meanwhile, MP Dipankar Talukder said in his speech as the chief guest that Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the greatest Bengali Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, officially recognized the Tanchangya community on the eve of the peace treaty in 1997. Hon'ble Prime Minister is very sincere about Tanchangya people. He urged the Tanchangya community to continue practicing their language and culture. At the end of the discussion meeting, he announced the auspicious opening of the Tanchangya Alphabet Education Course. Tanchangya individuals expressed their gratitude and thanks to the Rangamati Hill District Council for taking such praiseworthy initiative of the Zilla Parishad and requested to continue this trend.
Gradually, a total of 200 students will be taught the Tanchangya alphabet in four batches of 50 students per batch in the training program. Tanchangya students from class VI to IX studying at Wagga High School will have the opportunity to take this course. The course will run after school holidays from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Each batch will have 1 day class in a week.
