Thousands deprive of medical care

Thousands of indigent patients of the upazila are deprived of services at the 10-bed Mother and Child Welfare Center in Shalikha Upazila Sadar Arpara of Magura. Instead of service, women and child patients are suffering. Currently, children are more affected by diarrhea, fever and cold. So these helpless patients come to Mother and Child Welfare Center Hospital for treatment. Instead of going there for treatment, there is harassment.

A visitor on duty gave some government medicines to these suffering patients with first aid advice. Such complaints are a daily occurrence of patients who come to the 10-bed Mother and Child Welfare Center for medical treatment. Although the patient is not receiving proper treatment in this hospital, some employees are not bothered with that. The 10-bed mother and child hospital located in the area adjacent to Chukinagar Kanudar Canal of Shalikha Upazila Sadar Arpara has a few employees but currently there is not a single doctor in this hospital.

The 10-bed hospital is being run with a total of five staff including a visitor, (additional charge nurse), office assistant and lab technician, pharmacist. As a result, patients are deprived of their desired services. Although the hospital was inaugurated in 2019, it is not running properly due to shortage of doctors, nurses and other staff. If so, how can we get the service? Arifa Khatun, a visitor who is currently in charge of the mother and child welfare center, said that since there is no doctor, I am giving primary medical care and some government medicines to several patients every day. Upazila Family Planning Officer Md Enamul Haque said that there is no appointment of a specific doctor for the institution. The manpower crisis will be gradually reduced and recruitment to various posts is going on.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hasina Mumtaz said that there are 10 well-equipped mother and child welfare centers in Arpara. As there is no doctor there, the medical services are severely hampered. I will raise the matter through the District Commissioner to take necessary action.
