The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two people with 46 gold bars from the Samanta border area of Maheshpur in Jhenaidah.
The incident took place around 5:30 pm on Monday. The BGB confirmed the matter through a press release.
The detainees are Abdul Kader Mandal (60) of Chaygharia village in Maheshpur and Dulal (40) of Raipur village in the same upazila.
Shah Azizus Shaheed, Director of BGB-58 Battalion in Jhenaidah, said that the BGB received information that smugglers would go towards the border to smuggle a huge amount of gold to India. Based on that information, the BGB patrol team took position in the paddy field in the field of Raipur village 300 meters inside Bangladesh from the border pillar 59/3 S adjacent to Samanta BOP.
At that time, two smugglers tried to run away when they saw a BGB patrol and were apprehended by BGB members. Later, they were searched and 46 gold bars hidden in their waists were found. The weight of this gold is 5 kg 454 grams and the estimated market value is Tk 5 crore 91 lakh 72 thousand 750.
