Arresting on charges of sabotage continue

# 14 new cases filed in Dhaka, 2,822 arrested

# BGB patrol strengthened across country including Dhaka

# Additional police deployed at intersections in Dhaka

 

Six coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, who are in the custody of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), announced the withdrawal of all movements on Sunday night. However, some coordinators outside rejected the announcement and called for a new movement.

According to the announcement, they called 'student-public demonstrations' and 'protest rallies' across the country yesterday. To implement this program, they took to the streets of Rajshahi, Cumilla, Chattogram and Barishal, including several areas of the capital Dhaka. The police also arrested several protesters.

DMP has so far arrested 2,822 people in connection with the violence, vandalism and arson attacks on government and private establishments in the capital before the imposition of curfew centering the anti-quota movement.

Keeping in mind the previous situation in the announcement of the students' protest program, the police came to the field in advance yesterday. Police and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed on important roads and intersections in Dhaka since yesterday morning. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have strengthened patrolling across the country including Dhaka.

In addition, there are army patrols in important areas. Police presence has been increased in the capital's Mohammadpur, Mirpur-10 roundabout, Badda, Rampura, Jatiya Press Club and Jatrabari. There was also an increased police presence on the streets.

Md Shariful Islam, public relations officer of BGB headquarters, said the BGB patrol has been strengthened across the country, including important places in the capital, to avoid any chaotic situation at present.

Badda Zone Government Police Commissioner (AC) Rajam Kumar Saha said, "There is no security threat so far. Traffic is moving normally in Badda area."

Rifat Rahman Shamim, deputy commissioner (DC) of Gulshan Division, said police have adequate security measures. There is no reason to fear. Vehicles are moving normally on the road.

DMP Media and Public Relations Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Faruk Hossain said adequate security measures have been taken in Dhaka to tackle any situation, including chaos. Additional police have been deployed at the intersection to protect people's lives and property.

Meanwhile a total of 243 cases have so far been filed with different police stations in Dhaka city in connection with vandalism, violence and sabotage at government establishments across the country, including Dhaka, in the name of quota reform movement. In the last 24 hours, 14 new cases have been filed with different police stations. So far, 2,822 people have been arrested in these cases for their alleged involvement in sabotage and violence. Ten people were arrested in the last 24 hours.

Police said most of the arrestees were Jamaat and BNP activists. KN Roy Niyati, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Division, said that they are identifying and arresting those involved in the violence and sabotage by analyzing intelligence and footage of CC cameras.

As a result, 2,822 people have been shown arrested in Dhaka till yesterday. Ten were arrested in the last 24 hours. 14 new cases were filed in the last 24 hours. Those arrested in these cases have been sent to court.

Meanwhile, RAB is conducting operations to arrest those involved in the violence. A total of 334 people, including six in Dhaka and 24 outside Dhaka, were arrested during the ongoing drives.
