The intelligence department of the police is conducting an in-depth investigation of the incident to identify those involved in the murder of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anna. New clues are coming out as the days go by. The officials concerned in the investigation are making continuous efforts to catch the real criminals.
Finally, according to the information given by three people including Shimul Bhuiyan, the main murderer of this sensational murder, District Awami League (AL) Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu was arrested. District Awami League general secretary Saidul Karim Mintu was also arrested on the information given by Babu.
Following Mintu's arrest, MP Anar's followers marched in protest. However, Mintu's followers staged counter-protests and human chains. Meanwhile, Anar's daughter Doreen claimed that the detained Gas Babu is not their enemy, while DB chief Harun-or-Rashid hinted that Mintu might be released.
On the other hand, Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen met the Home Minister at the Secretariat yesterday and demanded a proper trial for those involved in the murder of her father. Later, while talking to reporters, she complained that there has been lobbying from big places to save the criminals. However, the Home Minister assured her that justice would be done, and criminals would not be spared.
It should be noted that Jhenaidah District Awami League (AL) General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu has been brought to the DB office for questioning in connection with the murder of MP Azim. Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police (DB) Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid said this to reporters at his office on Minto Road in the capital yesterday afternoon.
Harun said that the name 'Gas Babu' came from the statement given by three people including the main killer Shimul Bhuiyan. After the arrest of Gas Babu, the name of Jhenaidah District Awami League General Secretary Mintu came out in the information given by him. He was called upon to conduct a judicial analysis of data. Mintu will be released if he answers the questioning of the investigating officers. If not, legal action will be taken.
He said that many other people have information about the murder of parliament member Anna. No exemption will be granted to those whose affiliations are found. Detective police always investigate cases independently. There is no pressure from higher authorities.
Earlier, Saidul Karim Mintu was taken to the DB office from Dhanmondi in the capital on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the murder of Parliamentarian Anna. According to intelligence sources, Mintu was in contact with Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, the mastermind of Anna's murder.
Meanwhile, Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen, daughter of Member of Parliament for Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Anwarul Azim Annar, went to the secretariat yesterday to seek justice for her father's murder. She met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the Secretariat and demanded a fair trial. Later, Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen spoke to the journalists.
At this time, She said, many people have already been detained for questioning on the suspicion of involvement in this murder. I have heard that lobbying is being done from many places to save criminals. Efforts are being made to release them. I have demanded that no attempt be made to stop the trial of this murder under the pressure of any lobbying and that the proper investigation should not be stopped under pressure. I said that I should get a fair trial.
He said, Gas Babu, who has been arrested, is not my father's opponent. He has no enmity with us. Many questions arise in my mind. Met him at Bhanga on the 17th of last month. There was a money transaction that I heard in the news. My point is, who is the supplier of this money? Why did they do it? You have seen that before arresting him, he made a complaint to the police station that his three phones were lost. My question is how can a man lose three phones in the same day? Are these planned, he is not my father's enemy.
I have repeatedly said who is doing these things. Assuring a fair trial, the Home Minister told him that no one will be spared in this case. That which will come in law, that which is true will be judged. I believe Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina does not give a molehill discount to criminals,' said Doreen.
At the same time, Jhenaidah District Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu was arrested and the Awami League held counter-demonstrations and human chains. Yesterday afternoon, Mintu followers gave a 48-hour ultimatum to Mintu's release by observing a human chain program at Pyara Chattar in Jhenaidah City. On the other hand, MP Anar's followers held a rally in Kaliganj town expressing their satisfaction over the arrest of Saidul Karim Mintu. They claimed Saidul Karim Mintu to be the main conspirator of MP Anna's murder.
Around noon yesterday, several hundred leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliates held a human chain program demanding that Mintu be returned to the people. District Awami League leaders Masud Ahmed Sanju, Anisur Rahman Khoka, Abdul Malek Meena, Rasel, Rana Hamid, Ujjal, and Al Imran spoke in the human bonding program that stretched from Payra Chatwar to Jhenaidah KC College.
Meanwhile, MP Anar's followers took out a procession from the party office in Kaliganj city last Tuesday at around 8 pm to express their dismay as Mintu was arrested. The procession went around the main road of Kaliganj city and ended again at the same place. Kaliganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Shibli Nomani, Municipal Mayor Ashraful Alam, Vice Chairman Shafiquzzaman Rasel and UP Chairman Nasir Chowdhury spoke in a short gathering.
Chairman of Upazila Parishad Shibli Nomani said in the rally that popular leader MP Anar was brutally killed. District Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu has been arrested behind this murder. According to his confession, District Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu has also been detained. He also said that Saidul Karim is the conspirator of Mintu Anna's murder.
Incidentally, Annar, a three-time Member of Parliament of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency, was the President of Kaliganj Upazila Awami League. On May 11, he went to India for treatment. First, he stayed at the house of his friend gold merchant Gopal Biswas in Barahnagar, Kolkata. But he disappeared from there. After that, Gopal Biswas filed a GD at the local police station. Investigations began in both countries. On the morning of May 22, the Indian media reported that MP Annar was murdered in a house in Newtown. After that, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal confirmed the killing by quoting the Indian police.
