A N M Tariqul Islam has broken the record for the first time by achieving an integrity award in the Directorate of Sport on June 6, 2024. He joined as director (joint secretary) in the Ministry of Youth and Sports on September 27, 2023. Senior Reporter Al Ehsan took an interview on behalf of The Daily Post to learn about the integrity award.
DP: How do you feel about achieving this award for the first time after 48 years of establishing the directorate of sports?
A N M Tariqul Islam: Obviously, it is a great achievement for me, all the officials and staff are helping me cordially to achieve this honor.
DP: What is the basic reason for achieving the integrity award?
A N M Tariqul Islam: I am very strict on protecting the wasting of government money. When I joined here, I found out two vehicles stayed here idle but some fake vouchers written here monthly near about Tk Two lakhs. So to protect the corruption, I withdraw my vehicle and others from the directorate.
DP: What is your massive work for this Directorate?
A N M Tariqul Islam: To establishing the accountability in the directorate, I noticed 5 colleges from 6 colleges, that did not follow the directive of 2014 where government said to make website of each government institute to establish the integrity.
DP: What is your plan with this directorate?
A N M Tariqul Islam: Government made this directorate to freely distribute sports materials to the people. But there is lack of accountability so I want to establish accountability here.
DP: You worked for RSK system in land ministry and achieving the highest revenue from DNCC by using automation tools, how you use your experience in here?
A N M Tariqul Islam: Yes, I already make a database and IT supported smart plan for distributing the sport materials all over the country. No fake voucher or corruption will work in this system. I already submit the plan to the ministry. If ministry approves this project, sport directorate will be smoother and people get sports materials freely by the sake of government plan.
