Brazil‍‍`s 64-year record claims are false

On November 28, Brazil faced Switzerland. After a 1-0 win, Brazil went through the group stage in the last sixteen with one game in hand. Since then a rumor has been heard. Brazil supporters claim that Brazil have not lost a single group stage match in 64 years. Again, many claim that Brazil did not have to look at any 3rd match in 64 years to pass the group stage. In this regard, wrong information is also seen in the media. Actually neither of the two claims is correct. According to FIFA sources, Brazil lost to Norway in their third match in the group stage of the last 1998 World Cup. Brazil lost 1-2 to Norway. As such, the correct information will be that, in the last 24 years, Brazil has not lost a match in the group stage.

On the other hand, another rumor is heard that Brazil has never had to look at the 3rd match to advance to the last 16 in the last 64 years. This information is also false or rumor. In fact, in both the 2014 Brazil World Cup and 2018 Russia World Cup, Brazil got a chance to go to the second round after the 3rd match. In the last two World Cups, Brazil won one of the first two matches and drew one. As a result, Brazil had to win the third match and then go to the second round.

The fact check is fully verified from FIFA sources. Fact-checking was assisted by Rumor Scanner BD, a social media-based firm on the accuracy of rumors.
