According to a reliable source of the party, the Awami League is desperate to control the capital by any means on the day of the BNP rally.
Meanwhile, the metropolitan Awami League leaders and activists are making maximum preparations to confront the BNP. They are not willing to give concessions to BNP in any way. However, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League organized a huge public gathering at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque on December 9, the day before the BNP rally.
According to sources, several lakhs of people will gather in it. When asked, Humayon Kabir, general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, said that from the morning of December 1, all the leaders and activists of every mahalla, ward and police station in the metropolitan south will be on maximum alert. If BNP creates any mischief and anarchy on this day, no concession will be given. However, the Metropolitan North Awami League has prepared for a massive showdown around the opposition party`s rally.
The president of the organization, Bazlur Rahman, said that they are already keeping the leaders and activists active by holding peace rallies in all police station units of Dhaka. In continuation of this, the Metropolitan North Awami League will hold a large rally on December 6 or 9. The venue of the rally is yet to be finalised. However, there is a possibility of organizing it in the field adjacent to Shyamoli or Agargaon Bangabandhu Conference Center, he said.
About the BNP rally on December 10, Abdur Rahman, one of the presidium members of Awami League, said, `BNP will hold a rally, it is good for democracy, if it is a peaceful rally. People were horrified when they heard their rally. Because BNP always causes loss of life and property of people and creates anarchy in the name of rallies and processions. BNP wants to gather millions of people in Dhaka. So much popularity, then what are they afraid of coming to the election? Basically they are busy inciting the third power by diverting the country through violence and coming to power in an unconstitutional way. That`s why BNP is afraid of elections, is making rhetoric in the media. They are desperate to bring a puppet government to power like in 2006. If all the opposition alliances come to the election at this moment, Sheikh Hasina will get 80 percent of the votes.
Regarding what will be the program of Awami League on December 10, central organizing secretary and former MP BM Mozammel Haque said, `BNP is organizing a movement with defector leaders, and there is no involvement of the general public. Apart from some of their own activists and mercenaries, they failed to rally the general public. BNP has not received the support of the people since its inception and will never receive it. Because they were never involved in people`s issues except Zia family. BNP leaders are talking about December 10. They will not be able to gather 50 thousand people in Dhaka city.
This once brilliant student leader also said, `Spreading false and shocking information among the people is one of the agenda of BNP. BNP is organizationally very weak and fragile. On the other hand, Awami League is very united under the leadership of People`s Leader Sheikh Hasina.
In response to the question whether Awami League will give any counter program or not, BM Mozammel Haque said that Awami League will spend a busy time with various programs of the month of victory including the conference of its affiliated organizations. They are not thinking about the program of BNP.
Awami League`s central organizing secretary SM Kamal said that BNP could not gather any mass in the previous rallies and said, `BNP wants to create an unusual situation in the country by creating an anarchic situation and destroying the political, economic and social stability of the country. They are failing to gather the minimum number of people. BNP could not gather any crowd in the previous rallies. Because the people are not with them.
He also said that they could not gather only 10,000 people in a road in Khulna, people are not responding to them. Only a few thousand people gathered in the latest Sylhet rally. But it is being inflated and propagated.
SM Kamal also said that the people will not respond to the Dhaka rally. If BNP tries to do any sabotage on December 10, their graves will be dug.
